Kendrick Lamar’s ‘Humble’ Beat Was Actually Meant for Gucci Mane

The MikeWillMadeIt-produced beat wasn't originally meant for Kung-fu Kenny.

Atlanta producer and hit-maker, MikeWillMadeIt, recently did a interview with NPR on what the recording process was like for Kendrick Lamar’s ‘DAMN.

In the interview, Mike Will dropped a gem where he stated that the current number one song in America, “Humble“, was actually supposed to go to Gucci Mane after he was released from prison:

I made that beat [last year] when Gucci Mane was getting out of jail; I made it with him in mind. I was just thinking, damn, Gucci’s about to come home; it’s got to be something urgent that’s just going to take over the radio. And I felt like that beat was that. I ended up not doing it with Gucci and I let Kendrick hear it. I was thinking, if Dot gets on this it’ll be his first time being heard on some[thing] like this.

This shouldn’t really come as a surprise, since Gucci Mane is a frequent collaborator with MikeWill. Still, it would be interesting to see what Guwop would have done with that beat. All we do know is that MikeWillMadeIt is a national treasure, and should be treated as such.
